LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The No. 25 Colorado Mesa men's wrestling team started the road trip off right with a 35-6 win over New Mexico Highlands on Wednesday evening in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual.
Cian Apple (125) and
Dylan Keeney (133) opened the dual with a pair of pins to give the Mavericks an early 12-0 lead. Apple earned a first round pin while Keeney's came late in the second round.
At 141 pounds, redshirt sophomore
Daniel Van Hoose dropped a close 6-4 decision to Jonathan Trujillo who entered the bout ranked No. 12 nationally.
After decision victories by
Dyllan Fuchs (149) and
Dylan Ranieri (157), the Mavericks picked up a pair of bonus point victories from No. 10
Fred Green at 165 pounds and
Seth Latham at 174 pounds. Green earned a second period pin of Thomas Tolbert while Latham earned a tech fall victory over Kenneth Yara.
Colorado Mesa won six straight bouts from 149 pounds to 197 pounds. The run was capped by decision wins by
Nolan Krone (184) and No. 11
Donnie Negus (197).
The Mavericks will conclude the road trip tomorrow night against No. 13 Adams State in Alamosa.
