GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks got a major decision from junior
Fred Green in an upset over sixth ranked Skyler Lykins at the 165-weight class but, the Mavericks would not have enough fire power and would go down to ninth-ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers 28-11 at Brownson Arena on Saturday night.

CMU would fall behind early with losses at the 125 and 133 weight classes. Junior
Collin Metzgar would suffer a tough loss as it appeared his match would be going to overtime but a last second take down and nearfall sealed his fate losing 6-3 at 125. Â Red-shirt sophomore
Dylan Keeney was over powered by Jake Woods losing his match 8-1.

At 141 pounds,
Daniel Van Hoose earned the first points of the night for the Mavericks with a well-deserved 7-3 decision earning three takedowns and an escape. The win pushes his win streak to four matches.

Colorado Mesa trailed 16-3 going into the 165 class where Green would get a 13-5 major decision, giving the Mavericks a chance with four matches to go as they trail 16-7. Green led 9-3 after the first period and managed to stay in front of Lykins the rest of the bout. The win was his second of the season over Lykins and extended his winning streak to 13 matches.

The Mavs would trail 19-7 going into the 184 pound match where redshirt sophomore
Nolan Krone earned a 15-1 major decision by garnering two near falls in the bout.

At 197 pounds, junior
Donnie Negus, ranked 11
th in his weight class, was upset by Nolan Funk with an escape in the tiebreaker-2 period, losing 6-5. Funk sent the match into overtime by scoring a takedown as time expired in the third period.

CMU snapped their three-match win streak and would fall to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC.

The Mavericks will be back in action on Thursday night with a match up against San Francisco State in Brownson Arena for senior night before closing out the season on the road.
