COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Maverick men's tennis team swept the doubles matches and took five of six singles affairs en-route to a convincing 8-1 away win over Colorado College on Friday afternoon at the Tigers' Burghart Courts while snapping a 4-match slide.
With every match counting towards the team score against the NCAA Division III hosts, the Mavericks jumped led 5-0 as they picked up their fourth team win (4-15) of the year while the Tigers fell to 5-10.
William Agritelley,
Christian Albrechtsen,
Alain De La Bastide,
Steven Howe and
Lucas Martin all went 2-0 on the day as Howe cracked the lineup for the first time since Mar. 19. He and Albrechtsen won the pro-set No. 3 doubles match, 8-2 to put the Mavericks on the board.
De La Bastide and Martin then won at No. 1 doubles for the third straight dual, recording an 8-4 win over Noah Forman and Daniel Holland.
William Agritelley and
Max Lindqvist then completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over Jacob Adams and Christian Kitchen at No. 2.
In singles, Albrechtsen won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 while Martin shutout Kitchen, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 to clinch the team victory for the Mavericks.
Forman then completed his 6-2, 6-2 win over Lindqvist at No. 1 singles to give the Tigers their lone point before De La Bastide won a 10-2 match tie-breaker after splitting two close sets with Adams at No. 3 singles. Adams had won an 11-9 first set tiebreaker before De La Bastide took the second set, 6-4.
Meanwhile, Howe defeated Alex Wimer, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 6 flight before Agritelley completed the match with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Alex Kley at No. 5.
CMU's
Mitchell Steadman also won an 8-0 exhibition singles match over Michael Bennett.
The Mavericks will now return home for the first time in nearly two months to take on CSU-Pueblo next Friday (Apr. 19) hoping to avenge CSU-Pueblo's 4-3 victory six days ago. That match at the Elliott Tennis Center is slated for a 10 a.m. start and will be the final home match for the Mavs this year.
