FRESNO, Calif.— The Colorado Mesa University Men's Tennis team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaking decision to Holy Names University in neutral-court action on Sunday here at the Haak Tennis Complex on the campus of Fresno Pacific University.
The Mavericks, now 2-11 overall, won the doubles point after taking two of the three matches and extended their lead to 2-0 when freshman
Christian Albrechtsen finished off John GIesberts, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match, which was the first to be completed.
However, the Hawks roared back to win the next four completed matches to take the dual. The winning point came in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles as Hugo Colpart, slotted 37
th nationally in the Jan. 16 edition of the Oracle/ITA NCAA Division II rankings, won 6-0, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2) over CMU senior
Max Lindqvist.
Lucas Martin also won a singles match for CMU, winning his No. 4 singles affair with Javier Luque in come-from-behind fashion. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Martin, won the second set in a tie-breaker (8-6) before winning the match by a 6-3 margin in the third set.
Martin also partnered with
Alain De La Bastide for a 6-4 No. 1 doubles win over Alex Vinee-Munoz and Colpart. Albrechtsen and
Steven Howe, who moved into the lineup for both singles and doubles, were also victorious over Luque and Vicent Hennebelle at No. 3 doubles by a 6-2 score.
The Mavericks also won a pair of exhibition matches as
Thiago Nejm and
Mitchell Steadman were victorious in doubles while Steadman a singles match by a 6-3, 6-1 score.
