USAF ACADEMY, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University freshman
Lauren White and
Davy Brown led the Maverick women's swimming and diving team in a Friday evening triangular against the host United States Air Force Academy Falcons and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Colorado School of Mines here at the Cadet Natatorium.
White and Brown went 1-2 in the 200-yard backstroke and teamed with
Maddie Pressler and
Natalie Saul for the victory in the meet-capping 400 free relay as the Mavericks (3-5, 3-0 RMAC) ran their winning streak over RMAC foes to 19 with a convincing 231 ½-62 ½ win over the Orediggers (1-4, 0-2 RMAC).
The NCAA Division I Falcons (4-3) defeated the Mavericks, 178 ½-117 ½, and Mines by a 206-84 margin as they won 12 of the 16 events. Mines' Mia Wood won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events for her squad.
White touched first in the 200 back with a time of two minutes, 5.74 seconds, which with the altitude-adjustment will extend her RMAC lead to 2:04.14 while Brown was just behind in 2:06.35 (2:04.75-adjusted).
In the 400 free relay, White turned in an opening leg split of 53.44 as the Mavs won the event in 3:34.58, ahead of CMU's runner-up "B" team, which finished in 3:36.55.
The Mavericks also had ten other runner-up finishes throughout the evening.
Sarah Fillerup,
Samantha White,
Candice Rosen and
Bret Congdon started the run with a time of 1:48.14 in the 200 medley relay, which opened the evening.
Lauren White then placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.41 while Pressler finished fourth in 1:56.53.
Brown then took second in the 100 back at 58.33 while Fillerup was third in 58.66 seconds. Brown also finished second in the 200 IM at 2:08.66 while
Kennedy Bright was third in 2:13.38.
Samantha White was second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.05 while
Bella Walters edged teammate
Isabelle Hansson in the 200 fly for second. Walters touched in 2:14.08 while Hansson was just behind at 2:14.14.
Pressler also finished second in the 100 free with a clocking of 54.04 seconds while
Noel Scott was third in 54.66 after Saul had finished third in the 50 free at 24.80 seconds.
Grace Payton also turned in a third place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:21.05 while Rosen finished second in the 100 butterfly with a sub-60 time of 59.30 seconds. Pressler (1:00.71) and Walters (1:01.33), finished third and fourth respectively.
On the diving boards, University of Iowa transfer
Jolynn Harris led the Mavericks in her CMU debut as she finished second on the 1-meter with 233.78 points after taking third on the 3-meter with 244.20 points.
Ali Lange was third on the 1-meter at 233.18 while
Natalya Dahlke took fourth on the 3-meter with a score of 235.80 points.
The Mavericks are now off until Nov. 20, when they will begin hosting the A3 Performance Invite.
