KEARNEY, Neb. – The Colorado Mesa wrestling team competed at the Midwest Duals on Saturday to close out their Cornhusker State road trip. The Mavericks went 2-1 in the duals against nationally ranked opponents and closed out the road trip with a 3-1 mark.
The lone loss of the trip came at the hands of No. 18 Central Oklahoma to open the Midwest Duals. The Bronchos won seven of the ten bouts with two pins that put the dual out of reach in a 28-12 loss to the former super region rival.
Senior
Jason Buhr earned a pin for the Mavericks at 165 pounds. Buhr caught Broncho Briar Stopp at the 4:52 mark of the match for his 101
st career win. The moved him to 11-4 on the season.
Bracken Lovell (133) and
Eduardo Penha (141) each earned decision victories.

In the Mavericks second dual, they took on former Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Fort Hays State. The two squads split the 10 duals and finished the dual tied at 23-23 but Colorado Mesa won the dual on the third criteria for match points scored 32-28.
Bracken Lovell earned his second win of the day with this one coming by pin at 5:47 of the match. The win moves Lovell to 12-10 on the season.
In the most anticipated match of the day, No. 2 ranked Brandon Ball squared off with Colorado Mesa's
Eduardo Penha, ranked No. 10. Ball came out on top 6-2 to tie the dual at 6-6 at the time.
Colorado Mesa won four of the final five bouts to get back into the dual.
Jason Buhr and
Seth Latham each earned major decision victories followed by a decision victory for
Nolan Krone at 184 pounds.
TJ Lodermeier capped the streak with a pin in the 197 pound match.
Latham's win came over nationally ranked Martin Verhaeghe, 12-0 at 174 pounds.
