Buhr's Milestone Paces Mavericks to Dual Win

RUSHVILLE, Neb. – Colorado Mesa senior Jason Buhr earned his 100th victory of his career to help lead the Mavericks to a 22-15 win over Chadron State at Gordon-Rushville Middle School.

The Maverick 165 pounder moves to 100-42 in his career after a 4-2 win over Tate Allison. The two-time NCAA qualifier gave the Mavericks a 12-9 lead in the dual with the win.

Buhr joins James Martinez and Daniel Salazar as the lone three wrestlers to reach the 100-win plateau since the program rebooted in 2006.

The Mavericks received a forfeit at 125 pounds before surrendering a decision victory at 133 pounds to make the score 6-3 in favor of Colorado Mesa.

Senior Eduardo Penha earned an 8-2 decision victory over Chance Karst at 141 pounds. Penha picked up a first period takedown with Karst escaping right away. The Las Vegas native then took Karst down again near the end of the second period for the 4-1 advantage. Penha earned two more takedowns in the third for the 8-2 win.

Freshman Seth Latham turned in an impressive performance at 174 pounds. Latham took a while to takedown his opponent Matt Hebel but once he did it was all over. Latham was able to turn Hebel on four successive attempts for the 18-0 technical fall to give the Mavericks a 17-9 lead in the dual.

Like Latham, Nolan Krone earned an 18-1 technical fall at 184 pounds over Aspen Naylor to clinch the dual. Krone earned a pair of takedowns before three successive 4-point nearfalls for the technical fall victory and the 22-9 lead in the dual.

The Eagles won a pair of close matches to close out the dual.

Colorado Mesa will compete in the Midwest Duals in Kearney, Neb. on Saturday. They will take on three ranked opponents in the duals in Central Oklahoma, Fort Hays State, and Newman.
