GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The nationally-ranked Colorado Mesa University men' and women's swimming and diving teams swept Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victories over the visiting Colorado School of Mines Orediggers as the squads wrapped up a 2-day dual on Friday morning here at the El Pomar Natatorium.

The meet was the last home competition of the season for the Mavericks.

The Maverick men, ranked sixth nationally, won all nine swimming events on Friday and all but one of the 17 over the 2-day meet, posting a dominating 231-84 win over the Orediggers. The victory moves CMU's dual meet record to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC with all three losses coming to Division I opposition.

Meanwhile, the tenth-ranked Maverick women won five of Friday's nine events and had superior depth in many of the others to post a 187-128 win over Mines. The Mavericks finish the year undefeated in six RMAC duals and are now 6-4 overall with each of the setbacks coming to Division I foes.

On Friday, the Mavericks had two double-winners as senior
Sam Bryant won both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400 individual medley with times of 2:12.25 and 4:17.13, respectively. He had also claimed the 200 IM on Thursday.Â

Freshman
Torsten Rau won two events on Friday and four throughout the meet as he was victorious in the 1000 free (9:52.63) and 200 free (1:45.78) on Friday.

CMU's other men's individual event winners were
Sky Hirsch in the 50 free (21.34),
Eric Berg in the 100 back (54.03) and
Chris Radomski in the 100 butterfly (51.94). Berg,
Travis Newland, Radomski and
Cody Klaiber had started the day with a 200 medley relay winning effort of 1:36.42 while
Jerry Veneris, Hirsch,
Jake Gremaud and
Jason Hicks capped the meet by winning the 400 free relay in a time of 3:10.16.

The Mavericks also had three 1-2-3 sweeps on Friday as Radomski (21.87) and Veneris finished behind Hirsch in the 50 free while
Morgan Bean (53.26) and Hirsch (53.40) took second and third, respectively, in the 100 fly. Veneris (1:45.86) and Hicks (1:46.61) were just behind Rau in the 200 free.

Grace Payton,
Samantha White,
Danielle Jefferies and
Megan Sirijariyavat won the women's 200 medley relay in 1:50.64 before
Sierra Forbord, Payton and Jefferies were individual winners. Sirijariyavat,
Kennedy Bright,
Natalie Saul and
Maddie Pressler then capped the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:37.53.

Forbord's victory came in the 50 free as she touched in 24.81 seconds, to edge Sirijariyavat (24.84) and White (25.16), in the Mavericks' lone 1-2-3 women's sweep of the day.

Payton won the 100 back in 58.99 ahead of teammate
Celine Sargis, who was second in 1:00.16. Jefferies then won the 100 fly in 58.11.

Four more diving exhibition events, not figured into the team scores, were contested on Friday as well.Â
Sage D'Ambrosia and
Brittany Dixon were both double-winners.

D'Amborisa won the 1-meter, 11-dive event with an NCAA Championship qualifying score of 471.37 points and claimed the 3-meter, 6-dive competition with 278.85 points.

Dixon was victorious on the 1-meter board with an NCAA qualifying score of 393.07 points. She also won the 3-meter, 6-dive with 243.37 points.

The Mavericks will continue their season in two weeks taking on Division I Denver on Jan. 19 before competing in the Colorado College Classic on the following two days (Jan. 20-21) in Colorado Springs. They will then turn their attention to the Feb. 14-17 RMAC Championships in Lewisville, Texas.
