GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's
Julie Weddle has been named as the NCAA Division II Men's Dive Coach of the Year by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The honor, voted by NCAA Division II and CSCAA member coaches, comes after four Maverick men's divers combined for six first team and seven total CSCAA All-America honors at last week's NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Evansville, Indiana.
Senior
Ryan Campbell led that group as the national runner-up in both the 1 and 3-meter competitions.
The four Maverick divers scored 92 team points as they helped the Mavs' complete swimming & diving team to a third place finish, their best in program history.
Behind, Campbell,
Jax Juarros also earned a pair of podium finishes, taking fifth in the 3-meter and eight in the 1-meter event.
David Roethlisberger finished sixth in the 3-meter and won the 1-meter consolation final to place ninth.
Freshman
Giani Benoit also claimed a first team all-America honor with a eight place finish in the 1-meter.
At the conference level, the Mavericks swept the medals in both diving events at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Championships with Campbell winning the 1-meter title while Roethlisberger won the 3-meter crown.
Weddle also guided five Maverick women's divers, including 1-meter national runner-up Kenya Meyer, to ten CSCAA All-America honors last week.
Weddle completed her second season as the Mavs' diving coach after coaching for 20 years the NCAA Division I level with ten years at New Mexico following a 10-year stint at UNLV.
