GUNNISON, COLO. –
Gabriella Casey won the pole vault and
Greggory Payseno won the javelin throw to highlight the final day of competition for Colorado Mesa University at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Tuesday (May 9).
Casey won the pole vault with a leap of 11-5, and
Greggory Payseno won the javelin with a throw of 175-5.
The javelin was a strong event for the Mavericks. Michael Barbeau finished third (165-8),
Spencer Jahr fourth (161-3) and
Alex Armenta seventh (158-8).
Hannah McClure placed sixth in the women's javelin with a throw of 118-1.
The Mavericks set four school records on the day.
Trevor Jensen placed fourth in the shot put with a school-record throw of 52-5.25, and
Danielle Pickert placed fourth in the women's shot put with a throw of 41-7.25.
Marc Garcia placed third in the 400 hurdles in a school-record time of 53.38. MeKayla Winchester finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in a school-record time of 14.19. Winchester also placed sixth in the 200 (25.67).
Bacall Sterling finished second in the triple jump (39-7.75) and sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:03.90).
John Cusick finished third in the men's 1,500 (4:06.48) and
Alexia Chapman was seventh in the women's (4:52.77).
D'Angelo Foster finished third in the 110 hurdles (14.77), and Nate Oglesby was fourth in the 800 (1:51.88).
McKayla Thomas was seventh in the 100 hurdles (14.77) and
Ally Tapp was eighth in the 400 (58.02).
Quincey Pedersen finished eighth in the high jump (5-1.75).
The women's 4x400 finished seventh (4:03.11) and the men's 4x100 placed seventh (42.78).
The men finished third as a team, its highest finish ever, with 124 points. The women placed seventh with 50 points.
Colorado Mesa will compete at the Colorado School of Mines Last Chance Meet May 14.
