Kaila Jacobi hit an RBI single to left center that scored
Maggie Manwarren for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the No. 12 Colorado Mesa University softball team to a 2-1 win over Colorado Mines in the RMAC Tournament Championship.
The tournament championship is the first in program history. Colorado Mesa is the first softball team to win both the regular season and tournament championship in the same season since MSU Denver in 2010.
The Mavericks first run came in the first inning.
Maggie Manwarren led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error. She advanced to third on a sack bunt by Alex Dufour. Manwarren scored on a double to right center by
AnnMarie Torres.
The Orediggers tied it up with back-to-back doubles in the fourth.
McKenzie Surface earned her third win of the tournament allowing one run on eight hits and striking out four. Surface was named the tournament's most valuable player posting a 3-0 record with a 0.30 ERA. She gave up 19 hits (16 singles and three doubles) and struck out 19.
Maggie Manwarren was named to the all-tournament team batting .500 (6-12) with a team-high six total bases.
Baylee Boren also hit .500 (5-10) to earn all-tournament honors.
Zoe Pakes was the fourth Maverick on the all-tournament team batting .400 (2-5) and led the team with a .750 on-base percentage thanks to five walks.
With the tournament win, the Mavericks automatically qualify for the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. The complete bracket for the NCAA Tournament will be released on
