GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team placed second at the annual Maverick Spring Invitational at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa. The tournament is an annual tune-up for teams prior to the RMAC Championships next week.
The Mavericks shot 608 over the two rounds just five strokes behind team champion Cal State Monterey Bay who finished at 603. During the second round, the Mavericks were just one stroke behind the Otters with a 299, tying the lowest single round for the team this season.
MSU Denver placed third followed by Colorado Christian and the Colorado Mesa 'B' team.
Nicole Rooney was the highest placing Maverick with a 6-over, 150, good enough for a tie for third place in the tournament. Rooney shot a 1-over, 73 in her first round, which is her lowest round of the season by 10 strokes.

Naomi Yamada all finished with a 9-over, 153.
Cal State Monterey Bay's Blake Haverty was the individual medalist with a 2-over, 146 in her two rounds.
Colorado Mesa will head down to Arizona for the RMAC Championships next week at Ocotillo Golf Course.
