DURANGO, COLO. – The No. 22 Colorado Mesa University softball team finished with a combined 26 hits in a doubleheader sweep at Fort Lewis Saturday (April 1).
The Mavericks won game one 5-2 and game two 15-3.
After two scoreless innings, Mesa scored a run in the third on back-to-back doubles by
Sarah Phillis and
Baylee Boren.
Brooke Hodgson blasted a two-run homer to left center to push the CMU lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth.
FLC plated both of its run in the bottom of the fourth on three hits.
AnnMarie Torres drove in the final two runs for CMU in the fifth with a double to right center.
McKenzie Surface earned her team-leading 14
th win of the season giving up two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Brooke Hodgson led the Mavericks in game two batting 3-for-3, with two homeruns, five RBIs and four runs scored.
Five players recorded multiple hits in the game that featured 15 Maverick runs on 15 hits.
Mesa batted through the order in the first, scoring four runs on four hits.
The offensive production continued into the bottom of the inning with a three-run homer to center field by Angelique Elemen.
Brooke Hodgson hit her first homer of the game, a two-run homer to center field, to extend the Maverick lead to 6-0 in the second. She followed up with her second two-run homer of the game, this time to right center, as part of a three-run fourth inning.
With the bases loaded,
Kellie Mrofcza hit a base clearing double up the middle to highlight a six-run fifth inning.
Kimbri Herring (8-0) gave up three runs, on four hits, and struck out six.
Colorado Mesa (26-4, 19-2) will close the series with Fort Lewis (4-27, 3-19) with a doubleheader Sunday (April 1).
