GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University track and field teams opened the outdoor season with two provisional qualifying marks and five school records at the Colorado Slope Battle Saturday (March 18).
Nolan Ellis won the pole vault with a provisional qualifying height of 15-9.
Bacall Sterling won the triple jump with a provisional qualifying mark of 39-10.
CMU broke three school records in the throws.
Hannah McClure threw a school-record 39-5.75 to place third in the shot put.
Taylor Clark broke the school-record in the women's throw with a heave of 153-5 and finished third in the discus (136-5)
Aaron Simons broke his own record in the discus with a heave of 160-3.
Trevor Jensen won the hammer throw with a school-record mark of 171-1. He also finished second in the shot put (50-4) and discus (153-10).
D'Angelo Forster won the 110 hurdles in a school-record time of 14.80.
Former CMU men's basketball player
James Sylvester won the triple jump (45-10.75) and placed second in the long jump (22-1).
Mekayla Winchester led a podium sweep of the 100 hurdles for CMU winning in a time of 14.67.
McKayla Thomas was second (15.33), and
Lyndzie Kroupa was third (16.11).
Gabriella Casey and
Spencer Elder finished first (11-5.75) and second (10-11.75) in the pole vault.
Quincey Pedersen won the high jump (5-3) and placed second in the triple jump (35-6.5).
Huey Mitchell won the 200 (23.65) and finished second in the 100 (11.26).
CMU won both the men's (43.21) and women's (48.55) 4x100 relays.
In the javelin,
Hannah McClure placed second (104-8) in the women's and
Alex Armenta was third (163-3) in the men's.
Eric Nimtz finished third in the hammer throw (158-3), and
Erika White was third in the long jump (15-10.5).
Alexia Chapman placed second in the 1,500 (4:47.27) and
Ally Tapp was third in the 200 (26.62).
Jack Briggs finished second in the 200 (24.16),
John Cusick was third in the 5,000 (15:34.15) and
Marc Garcia was third in the 400 hurdles (59.49).
The women's 4x400 relay finished second (4:05.48) and the men were third (3:34.58).
Both the men (175 points) and women (147.5) won the team titles.
Colorado Mesa will host the Maverick Invite March 25.
