Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – No. 19 Colorado Mesa University and Dixie State University split their softball doubleheader Sunday. The Trailblazers won the first game 12-4, and the Mavericks won the second 6-5.
DSU plated one run in the first thanks to a walk and a double.
Brooke Hodgson tied the score with a solo homerun in the top of the second.
The Trailblazers blew the game open with six runs in the bottom of the second. DSU's six runs came on three hits, two of which were homers, and five walks.
Brooke Hodgson hit a homerun in her next at-bat in the third inning to score three runs and cut the Dixie lead down to 7-4. Hodgson finished the 3-3 with four RBIs.
DSU scored three runs in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Andy Hancock (2-1) took the loss for CMU giving up six runs, all earned, on two hits and walking five in 1.2 innings of work.
AnnMarie Torres threw the other 3.2 innings giving up seven hits and allowing six runs, all earned.
Mesa reversed roles in the second game plating six runs on just three hits in the first inning.
Brooke Hodgson drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Bailey Kleespies drove in three runs with a double to left field, and
Abby Toller followed with a two-run bomb to center field.
The Trailblazers got on the board with a two-run homer in the third, and plated three runs, on three singles and an error in the fourth.
McKenzie Surface (5-0) allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits. She struck out five and walked five.
Colorado Mesa (7-2) will open RMAC play at Chadron State Feb. 25-26.
