COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released the All-RMAC football teams this afternoon (Nov. 14). Colorado Mesa had 12 players named to either the first team or second team and hauled in three of the six top honors.
Quarterback
Eystin Salum passed for a school record 2,465 yards and added 919 rushing yards, earning him RMAC Offensive Player of the Year and All-RAMC first team honors. The Denver native threw 20 touchdown passes and rushed in 13 more for 33 total touchdowns on the season. The junior earned two RMAC offensive player of the week honors and National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter Player of the Week once.
Senior defensive end
Blake Nelson was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-RMAC first team honors after finishing second in the conference in sacks. Nelson filled the stat sheet as he had nine quarterback hurries, six pass breakups, a fumble recovery, an interception, and finished among the nation's leaders with four blocked kicks.
Virnel Moon returned three kickoffs for a touchdown this season, earning him RMAC Special Teams Player of the Year. The three kickoff return touchdowns is a program record and his 718 kickoff return yards put him third all-time. Moon picked up the double honor as he earned All-RMAC first team honors as a receiver as well. The El Cajon, Calif. native caught 23 passes for 633 yards and eight touchdowns.
Running back
David Tann garnered All-RMAC first team after rushing for 1,299 yards and 19 touchdowns. Tann finished his career with 2,734 yards rushing and 44 rushing touchdowns. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa product finished with 51 total touchdowns in his career.
Austin Fleer and
Aaron Simons anchored the Maverick offensive line this season and both earned All-RMAC first team recognition. The duo guided the Mavericks to 5,382 yards of total offense including 2,836 yards on the ground.
Linebacker
Tom Saager earned All-RMAC first team honors after bouncing back from injury the year prior. Saager finished with 78 total tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss and added three pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.
Place kicker
Ryan Sheehan picked up All-RMAC first team honors after finishing his career connecting on 154 straight PATs. He was 7-for-12 on his field goal attempts this season and connected on a career-long 51 yard field goal. His 59 career field goals are also a school record.
Austin Beswick garnered All-RMAC second team honors joining Fleer and Simons on the offensive line. Beswick started all 11 games at left guard and has played in 40 straight games.
Wide receiver
Josh Brown earned All-RMAC second team honors after catching a team-high 36 passes for 616 yards and two touchdowns.
Tight end
Tanner Quick was named to the All-RMAC second team. Quick caught six passes on the season for 120 yards and a touchdown while helping lead the ground attack as part of the offensive line.
Antonio Clark (defensive back),
Dustin Rivas (defensive back),
Chance Drake (defensive tackle),
Austin Pitchford (punter), and
Darian Turner (safety) all earned honorable mention recognition.
