GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa won seven of the ten bouts in a 36-14 win over Adams State on Wednesday evening in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wrestling dual in Brownson Arena.
After dropping the first bout of the night at 133 pounds, Colorado Mesa rattled off seven straight victories that included three pins, a tech fall and a major decision.
Sophomore
Brett Kasprzyk pinned Sage Budd at the 4:39 mark in the 141 pound bout. The win was his his first collegiate dual. Having been taken down early, Kasprzyk finished the opening round with a reversal and a pair of two point nearfalls. Kasprzyk turned Budd twice in the second before earning the pin.
In the next bout,
Kyle Kintz made his debut at 149 pounds and didn't disappoint. Kintz grabbed Devin Vasquez in a headlock and earned the pin at the 2:23 mark of the first period.
Payton Tawater earned a pin at 157 pounds followed by a 27-12 tech fall for
Jason Buhr at 165 pounds.
Bruno Nicoletti earned the lone decision of the evening at 174 pounds with a 7-5 decision over Grizzly Korey Windham.
Adam Visconti earned a forfeit at 184 pounds and senior
Austin Gaun picked up a 14-3 major over Nevada Bencomo at 197 pounds.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action tomorrow evening at 6pm when they take on nationally ranked Cal Baptist in a matchup of RMAC heavyweights.
