BATTLE IN BROWNSON
Colorado Mesa will take on RMAC and Western Slope rival Western State in the third annual Battle in Brownson on Thursday evening at 7pm. The Mavericks enter the dual with a 9-3 overall mark and are riding a two-match winning streak against the Mountaineers but still trail in the overall series. Western State with a 6-5 overall record and are coming off a weekend where they defeated CSU-Pueblo (W, 22-15) and fell to national power Nebraska-Kearney (L, 19-24).
TAWATER
Redshirt freshman
Payton Tawater has enjoyed a successful freshman campaign thus far. Tawater, one of three freshman in the Maverick lineup, is ranked fifth nationally with a record of 23-7 on the season with his only Div. II loss coming to returning national champion Destin McCauley of Nebraska-Kearney in the finals of the UNK Holiday Inn Open. He enters this week's dual riding a 12-match winning streak and will likely be named the top seed at 157 pounds in Saturday's RMAC Championships.
TWO RETURN

Juaquin Olivas and redshirt freshman
Jareb Aziz made their dual debuts two weeks ago in the duals against CSU-Pueblo and Colorado Mines. Olivas, a transfer from Grand Canyon, was limited in the early season with injuries but managed to go 2-2 in the Reno Tournament of Champions while Aziz went 17-7 in open tournaments leading to the season.
RMAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships will once again be hosted at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The Mavericks placed third at last season's championships despite having a conference high five finalists where
Jonathon Stelling (125) and
Drew Schumann (149) both won championships. Colorado Mesa will be hosting an Alumni event on Friday February 3 at the Colorado Springs Marriott. Alumni and supporters of Colorado Mesa are welcome to attend the night prior to the event. For tickets to the RMAC Championships, visit rmacsports.org.
