CHADRON, Neb. – Colorado Mesa lost on tie breaker criteria to Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wrestling dual. The officially finished in a 20-20 tie but Chadron State gets awarded a tiebreaker points for the win.
The two teams split the dual with each side winning five bouts, but Chadron State earned a pin at 133 pounds for the criteria victory.
Chadron State earned a decision and a pin at 125 and 133 pounds respectively to open the dual before Colorado Mesa got on the board.
Daniel Salazar earned a technical fall victory at 141 pounds 22-6 over Brock Thumm. Salazar earned the tech fall at the 6:36 mark of the match.
Nick Swanson followed the victory with one of his own at 149 pounds with an 8-5 decision victory over Sean Glasgow. Big turning point in the match was in the second period when Swanson secured a four-point nearfall at the end of the period.
Payton Tawater picked up a major decision victory 13-0 over Johnny Porter at 157 pounds followed by
Jason Buhr tech falling Reed Burgener 26-7 at 165 pounds.
Those two wins gave the Mavericks a 17-9 lead in the dual with four matches to go.
Austin Gaun earned the Mavericks final victory of the evening at 184 pounds. Gaun defeated Willy Cogdill 4-0 heading into the final two matches of the evening.
Chadron State earned a win at 174 pounds, 197 pounds, and 285 pounds to knot the dual score at 20-20.
Colorado Mesa will compete in the Midwest Duals on Saturday in Kearney, Nebraska. The Mavericks will take on four ranked teams starting with 14
th ranked Fort Hays State.
