LAST WEEK
Colorado Mesa defeated a pair Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents in the first week of the New Year with wins over Adams State and 12th ranked Cal Baptist. Against Adams State, Colorado Mesa won seven of the 10 bouts en route to the 36-14 win. In the win over Cal Baptist, the Mavericks trailed entering the last three bouts of the evening but earned a decision and a pair of wins to pull off the upset.
WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Colorado Mesa's
Payton Tawater was named the RMAC Wrestler of the Week for his performance last week against Adams State, #12 Cal Baptist and the Tracy Borah Duals. Tawater went 5-0 over the week that included four wins by pin and one by technical fall. He is 16-7 on the season and is the second Maverick wrestler to be named the wrestler of the week.
BUHR
Sophomore
Jason Buhr finished last week with a 5-0 record. Buhr trailed Cal Baptist's Dominic Kincaid in a bout the Mavericks had to win by bonus points for the dual win. Buhr worked for an escape and found himself in position to throw Kincaid to his back and picked up a pin just seconds before the end of the second period. The La Jara, Colo. native is currently ranked No. 12 in the nation at 165 pounds.
MIDWEST DUALS
Colorado Mesa will be taking on more nationally ranked competitors this weekend at the Nebraska-Kearney Midwest Duals. The Mavericks will take on a pair of opponents that are tied for No. 15 in Fort Hays State and Augustana. They will also take on seventh ranked Northern State and fourth ranked Nebraska-Kearney.

During the Battle in Brownson on February 2, all Colorado Mesa Wrestling Alumni will be treated to a suite with food and beverage provided. Alumni will also be recognized following the fifth match of the evening during the intermission. Please contact

UP NEXT
Colorado Mesa will be on the road for a pair of duals next week. They will head to Pueblo to take on the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves on January 18. The ThunderWolves are coming off a weekend where they took fourth place at the NWCA National Duals. Then, they will head North to Golden for a dual with Colorado Mines on January 19.
