The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team settled for a 0-0 draw at Cal State East Bay Thursday (Sept. 1). The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team barely fell against Stanislaus State 1-2 Saturday (Sept. 3).
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
The Seawolves went 14-3-3 last year, rolling to their first CCAA championship with an undefeated 10-0-2 mark in conference play. The Lumberjacks add 15 new players, along with 11 returners, to a team that went 9-7-2 and 5-5-2 in conference a season ago.
LAST YEAR
Colorado Mesa's
Janelle Richmond-Buccola was the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year. Richmond-Buccola earned All-RMAC Honorable Mention at the end of the season.
COACHING
Jason Clare enters his third season as the head women's soccer coach at Colorado Mesa University. Last season was Clare's first season as a head coach at any level. He led the Mavericks to a 1-13-4 record and lost six matches by just one goal.
Danielle Thurman was named the assistant women's soccer coach at Colorado Mesa University in the summer of 2016. Thurman comes to the Mavericks after a successful stint at Otero Junior College in La Junta, CO.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Mavericks with be playing Angelo State Wednesday (Sept. 18) and Westminster Sunday (Sept. 14). Westminster will be the first home game of the season. In the 2015 season the Mavericks fell for Westminster twice just shy of one goal (0-1, 2-3). The Mavericks also fell to Angelo State (0-2) at the beining of the 2015 season.
