GRAND JUNCTION Colo.- The Mavericks are projected to finish second in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference according to a new preseason coaches' poll released on Thursday. The Mavs also have a league-high three players named to the preseason team.
The Mavs; who won the RMAC regular season title with an overall record of 14-4-2, had an undefeated and unscored upon conference record of 9-0-2, and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament; received 132 of the possible 144 points. The Mavs also received five first-place votes, three second-place votes, and three third-place votes.
The preseason poll is voted on by each of the conference's 13 head coaches, who rank their opponents without voting for themselves.
Colorado School of Mines finished ahead of CMU, earning 134 points. UCCS (131), Fort Lewis (109), and Regis (98) round out the top five.
The Preseason All-RMAC Team is made up of returning players in the order of coaches' voting from last year's all-conference selection process. The Mavs who made the list are defenders Olivia Barrett and Sarah Dunn, and goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek.
Barrett, a junior from Castle Rock, was a part of the best defense in the RMAC who did not concede a goal in conference play. She started all 20 games and logged 1,567 minutes for the Mavs, totaling two goals and two assists. She was named Defender of the Week twice and made the First Team All-RMAC squad.
Dunn, a senior from Colorado Springs, played a huge role in the Mavs' record-setting defense as she not only played in every game, but in all but four minutes of the entire season, logging 1,813 in total. She was also named Defender of the Week and earned a place on the Second Team All-RMAC squad. She totaled three goals and two assists.
Wieczorek, a senior from Camas, Washington, is coming off a historic season where she broke multiple school records including goals against average (0.263), save percentage (.914), shutouts (15), consecutive shutouts (12), and held a shutout streak for 1159 minutes and 27 seconds. She holds the Division II records for best single-season goals against average and save percentage. She earned Goalkeeper of the Week twice and was named Goalkeeper of the Year. She also earned a place on the First Team All-RMAC squad.
The Mavs open up the 2026 season in Wichita Falls, Texas with a match-up against Midwestern State on Sept. 3. The game will take place at Stang Park at 7 p.m. CDT (6 p.m. MT).
