PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team opened the 2016-17 season this week at the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational at Pueblo Country Club.
The Mavericks finished fifth in the tournament with a two round score of 635. They picked up 21 strokes on their first round score of 328, finishing with a final round score of 307, good enough for third on the day.
Colorado Mesa was just two strokes behind fourth place CSU-Pueblo and three strokes behind third place Lewis. West Texas A&M won the tournament with a score of 611.
Sophomore
Ashlyn Kirschner paced the Mavericks with a third place finish with a two-round total of 8-over, 152. Kirschner fired a 1-under, 71 for the low-round of the tournament on Tuesday and gained 15 spots on the leaderboard in her final round.
Junior
Naomi Yamada finished in a tie for 11
th place with a 156.
West Texas A&M's Mattye Mason won the individual medalist honor with a 146.
The Mavericks will be back on the road next week at the Ranger Invitational (RMAC #1) in Denver.
