Mavericks Host Weekend Matches

LAST WEEK
The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team scored one first half goal and held on to defeat NCAA South Central region foe Angelo State 1-0 in a neutral site contest in Gunnison, Colo. The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team opened conference play with a 1-0 loss against the Westminster Griffins Sunday (Sept. 18) at Walker Field.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
The UCCS Mountain Lions are 1-0-0 in conference games and 1-3-0 overallgoing into the weeks match against the Mavericks. This year the Mountain Lions have a .333 shots on goal percentage and take 1.75 shots per game. The  Mountaineers enter this weekends match against the Mavericks 1-0-0 in conference play and 3-2-1 overall. The Mountaineers are taking 1.67 shots per game, and have a .489 shots on goal percentage.

LAST YEAR
Last year against the Mountainlions, the Mavericks tied 1-1 in their one game of the season. The Mavericks fell to the Mountaineers in 2015 (1-0), also their only game against each other during that season. 

COACHING
Jason Clare enters his third season as the head women's soccer coach at Colorado Mesa University. Last season was Clare's first season as a head coach at any level. He led the Mavericks to a 1-13-4 record and lost six matches by just one goal. Danielle Thurman was named the assistant women's soccer coach at Colorado Mesa University in the summer of 2016. Thurman comes to the Mavericks after a successful stint at Otero Junior College in La Junta, CO.

MAVERICK WINS
In both contest wins the Mavericks have been leading at halftime and outshot the oppenent.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Mavericks will travel to Denver, Colo. to play at MSU-Denver Friday (Sept. 30) and Regis Sunday (Oct. 2)
