Mavs Clinch Fourth Seed in RMAC Tournament

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- In their final tune-up game before the RMAC Tournament, the Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team played a scoreless tie against the Westminster Griffins.

With this result, the Mavs are the fourth seed in the RMAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal match on Sunday.

Westminster clinched the seventh seed and will host Colorado Christian on Friday.

This result also marks the 45th career shutout for Keely Wieczorek, who is now tied for the RMAC Career Shutouts record.

The Mavs got off on the right foot, as two shots from Katie Lozano-Monjaraz and Parker Mairs couldn't find the back of net.

Wieczorek got her first action of the day as she dealt with two shots from the Griffins.

Angelina Kazinec had a chance in the 25th minute, but it was saved by the goalkeeper. The Griffins responded with a shot of their own, but it was again dealt with by Wieczorek.

The last shot of the half came from Savanah Miller, whose shot was denied by the keeper.

The second half saw more the same as both defenses stuffed any kind of scoring chance the offense had.

The Griffins had two golden chances to score in the 72nd and 84th minutes, but both were saved by Wieczorek.

The Mavs only managed to get four shots off in the second half; with Mari Ige, Miller, Olivia Bariao-Arce and Parker Mairs all having their chances come up short.

The game was a defensive battle throughout, as both sides combined for just 16 shots with only seven of them being on goal. Bariao-Arce led the team in shots with three while Wieczorek made four saves to end her night.

The Mavs will host the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Nov. 1 for the first round of the RMAC Tournament. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
