Nolan Ellis is ranked third in NCAA Div. II after leaping a school record and a provisional qualifying mark of 16-0.75 at the Maverick Invite Saturday (March 19).
Andy Bowles had a productive day setting a pair of school records. He won the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.41 and earned a provisional qualifying mark of 6-7.75 to finish second.
Trevor Jensen set a school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 158-0.25 to finish second.
Alex Armenta led a podium sweep of the javelin for the Mavericks with a winning throw of 160-4.75. He also finished third in the high jump (5-10).
Walter Newman was second in the javelin (144-4.25), and
Adam Hill was third (142-7).
Breanna Royer was the top Maverick in the women's javelin finishing third (94-7.25).
Mekayla Winchester won the 100 hurdles (15.09) and placed third in the 400 hurdles (1:12.29).
McKayla Thomas won the high jump (5-0.25) and finished second in the 100 hurdles (15.34).
Mesa finished first (42.28) and second (43.63) in the men's 4x100 relay. The Mavs also won the women's 4x100 in a time of 50.07.
The men's 4x400 relays finished second (3:36.20) and third (3:40.91). The women's 4x400 relays finished second (4:12.40) and third (4:19.61).
Natalie West placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:11.86), and Quincey Pederson was second in the high jump (5-0.25).
Alexia Chapman was third in the 800 (2:21.35) and third in the 1,500 (4:49.57).
Zeke Sandoval finished third in the 400 (49.53), and
Sean Fitzgerald third in the 800 (1:59.38).
Blake Williams placed third in the 110 hurdles (16.69), and Aaron Simons was third in the discus (148-11.25)
The men finished first of five teams with 149 points. The women finished second of five teams with 123 points.
