PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis finished second at the RMAC tennis tournament Saturday (April 25).
The Mavericks entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and needed two days to knock off the No. 3 seed and host CSU-Pueblo. The match was suspended Friday and finished Saturday morning due to rain.
The Thunderwolves led 2-1 after doubles with the one Maverick win coming at No. 2.
Emily Dodson and
Amy Beeston defeated Sarah Coy and Toni Alvarez 8-3.
The Mavericks would earn wins at 2, 3 and 4 singles.
Kristyn Wykert won at No. 2 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, and
Rachel McLaughlin won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.
Katie Kirby tied the match at 4-4 with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win at No. 4.
Emily Dodson gave the Mavericks the win after earning a three set thriller (6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-2).
The championship match against Western New Mexico started the same for Colorado Mesa as the semifinal against CSU-Pueblo.
The Mavericks found themselves down 2-1 with the win coming at No. 2.

Amy Beeston defeated Ashley Newell and Tiffany Newell 9-8 (7-2).
Kristyn Wykert earned her second win of the day at No. 2 singles defeating Annica Betz 6-1, 6-1.
The Mustangs won the match and the tournament title with wins at No. 1, 4 and 5 singles.
Colorado Mesa finishes the regular season 15-9.
