KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team opened its Spring Break trip with a win while the women lost Monday (Mar. 23).
The men posted an 8-1 win over Puerto Rico, and the women fell 9-0 to Arkansas Tech.
The men started the match by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Spencer Weinberg and
Jordan Lyden won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
Cody Freischlag and
Andres Garcia-Rojas won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Trevor Brown and
Duncan Alger won 9-8 (4) at No. 3.
The lone Maverick singles loss came in a marathon match at No. 1 where
Jordan Lyden fell 4-6, 6-3, 11-9.
CMU won the remaining four singles matches.
In the women's match,
Natalie Martin and
Katie Kirby dropped a narrow 9-8 (6) decision at No. 3 doubles.
Emily Dodson lost a three set match (5-7, 6-4, 10-6) at No. 5 singles.
Natalie Martin dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 1, and
Kristyn Wykert lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
The men face Hamilton College Tuesday (Mar. 24) and the women will play Union and Palm Beach Atlantic.Â
