Mavericks Fall to Lady Buffs in Title Game

Box Score CANYON, Texas – Colorado Mesa allowed 22 second chance points to fifth ranked West Texas A&M in a 59-56 loss in the NCAA South Central Region Championship game at the First United Bank Center on the campus of West Texas A&M University.
 
The Mavericks had a chance to tie the game with four seconds left but were whistled for a traveling.
 
Neither team had greater than an eight point lead. The lead changed hands 15 times in the game while the score was tied four times in the championship match.
 
Senior Sharaya Selsor finished with a team-high 16 points and capped one of the greatest careers in Colorado Mesa history. Selsor finished her career with 1,497 points in her three seasons which is good enough for third on the all-tiime list. She also set single season records for points, free-throw percentage, three-point field goals made, and finished second in field goals made.
 
Hannah Pollart finished the game with 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Pollart picked up three fouls in the first half and was able to play 22 minutes in the game.
 
Pollart and Selsor were both named to the NCAA South Central Region All-Tournament team.
 
Senior Christen Lopez finished the game with seven assists which bring her season total to 158, the second best single season mark in the program's history.
 
The Mavericks held the Lady Buffs to 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the field including 15.4 percent (2-for-13) beyond the three-point line. West Texas came into the contest leading the country in three-point shooting percentage.
 
Colorado Mesa shot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field. It was the first time all season that the Mavericks outshot their opponents and lost. They entered the game 28-0.
 
Lady Buff Devin Griffen finished the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Chon White finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Both were named to the All-Tournament team with White being named the MVP.
 
Colorado Mesa finishes their season with a 30-2 mark and won the RMAC Championship, RMAC Shootout, and made their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regional Title game. Their two-year record stands at 61-4.
