Jordan Lyden opened the 2014 spring tennis season on the right foot defeating reigning Big Sky Player of the Week Ben Gendron of Northern Colorado 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles Saturday (Feb. 8).
Blake Demond earned the other win of the day for the Mavericks defeating Michael Moya 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 5 singles.
Cody Freischlag battled Jeff Carlson at No. 4 singles but fell in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 10-3.

Spencer Weinberg fell at No. 2 singles to Mitchel Knight 6-4, 6-3.
Andres Garcia-Rojas lost at No. 3 singles to Austin Mayo 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 6 singles Eric Schuermans defeated
Trevor Brown 6-1, 7-5.
The Golden Bears won all three doubles matches.
Mesa will play three matches in Phoenix March 14-15.
