Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team had six players score in double figures in an 85-63 win over Western State Saturday (Feb. 22). With the win the team secured a spot in the RMAC Tournament.
Joe Kiely scored a team-high 13 points and dished out eight assists to lead the Mavericks.
Mesa made just one 3-pointer in the first half but shot 51-percent (16-31) from the field in the first to lead 36-29 at halftime.
The Mavericks drained 5-of-8 from deep in the second half and sank 16-of-19 from the line to outscore the Mountaineers 49-34 over the final 20 minutes.
Landon Vermeer finished with 12 points, and John Orr and
Ryan Stephan each had 11 points.
Clay Kame and
Carlos Perez each chipped in 10 points off the bench.
CMU enjoyed 31 points from its bench compared to just 16 by WSCU. The Mavs dominated play in the paint outscoring the Mountaineers 32-12.
Mesa out rebounded Western 39-25.
Jordan Adams led Western State with 24 points.
Mesa improves to 13-11 overall and 11-9 in the league and will play at Adams State Feb. 28.
