Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team snapped its four game losing streak with a season-high 96 points in a 96-84 win over Colorado Christian Saturday (Feb. 1).
Sophomore
Ryan Stephan enjoyed a career night offensively scoring a career-high 27 points. The Lakewood, Colo., native shot six-of-seven from the field, drained both 3-point attempts, and made 13-of-14 free throws. He grabbed six rebounds and tallied two assists and one steal.
Mesa had four other players in double figures,
Clay Kame (13),
Landon Vermeer (12),
Jerry Duckworth (11) and
Carlos Perez (10).
The Mavericks enjoyed great offensive production from their bench which finished with 41 points. The Cougars by comparison had just 15.
CMU shot 59-percent (13-22) in the first half and 63-percent (14-22) in the second to finish with a season-high 61-percent (27-44) for the game.
Mesa led 40-37 at the half and out-scored Christian 56-47 over the final 20 minutes.
CCU drained 18 3-pointers against CMU earlier this season but the CMU defense held them to 11 tonight.
The Mavericks drained a season-high 34 free throws and shot 81-percent (34-42). The Cougars shot 71-percent (15-21) from the line.
Avery Redmond led the Cougars with 23 points, and Kyle Weaver added 18.
Mesa improves to 9-10 overall and 7-8 in the RMAC. CMU will play at Black Hills State Saturday (Feb. 7).
