GRAND CANYON DUALS
Colorado Mesa started the New Year at the Grand Canyon Duals in Phoenix, Ariz. The Mavericks came away with a pair of wins at the duals, beating Minnesota State-Moorhead 28-12 and Division I Grand Canyon 25-12. 
RMAC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Junior 197 pounder Paco Retana was awarded the RMAC Wrestler of the Week after his 3-0 record, winning all his matches by pin, last week against Embry Riddle, Minnesota St-Moorhead and Grand Canyon. This is the second time Retana has earned the award.
MAKING MOVES
Redshirt freshman Jessie Hoffschneider currently sits at 11-1 this season and is 7-0 in duals. The Grand Junction native's only loss has come at the hands of nationally ranked 157 pounder Ray Hall of CSU-Pueblo in the CMU Open Championship. Hoffschneider has a career record of 24-5.
POST MATCH SOCIAL
This season the wrestling program would like to welcome their fans and supporters to come to the Ale House following all home duals. The Ale House is offering drink and food specials. Talk to the coaches about that nights dual and socialize with other Maverick Wrestling supporters.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Colorado Mesa is ranked 18th in the NWCA National Rankings that were distributed on January 3. They are down two spots from where they were before the Christmas break.
James Martinez and Chester Granard were both ranked in the top eight individual rankings. Martinez moved up one spot to number two while Granard maintained at number eight.
MAVERICKS TO HOST REGIONAL
The Mavericks will host the 2014 NCAA Super Region 4 / RMAC Championships for the first time since the program was reinstated in 2006. All the programs in Super Region 4 consist of the RMAC and Simon Fraser out of British Columbia. The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
UP NEXT
Colorado Mesa will have next week off and will host their first RMAC duals of the season on Janury 23 and 24 when they take on the Chadron State Eagles and the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys.
