Lancers Tame Mavericks

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Cal Baptist Lancers won six of the nine contested matches and picked up a forfeit win on their way to a 31-10 win over the 13th ranked Colorado Mesa Mavericks in Van Dyne Gymnasium on Thursday night.

After the Mavericks dropped the first two matches, Daniel Salazar put Colorado Mesa on the board with an 11-7 win over Dakota Thayer at 141 pounds. Salazar never trailed in the match and scored a reversal as time expired to push to the four point advantage. He is now 14-2 on the season and 3-0 in RMAC matches.

Second ranked James Martinez scored the next win for the Mavericks at 149 pounds. It took Martinez overtime to defeat Alex Annunciation, 5-3. Martinez received a riding point at the end of regulation to force overtime. He then scored a takedown just 13 seconds into overtime to pick up the win.

After falling in the next two matches, sixth ranked Chester Granard tallied the final win for the Mavericks. Granard scored an 8-0 major decision win over Anthony Ballinger at 174 pounds. It is the third straight match Granard hasn't allowed a single point and is now 13-2 on the season.
