Grapplers Prepare For Home Duals This Week

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Chadron State is led by 133 pounder Dustin Stodola who currently sits at 17-0 on the season and ranked #4 in the National Rankings. Chadron went 4-0 last week at the UNK Duals and are 9-3 on the season in duals. Colorado Mesa won last season's meeting 24-9. 
SCOUTING THE COWBOYS
The Cowboys are led by 125 pounder Erick Rangel who is 18-4 on the season and 157 pounder Juan Alvarado who is 17-4 on the year. New Mexico Highlands is 3-1 on the year in duals and is coached by Doug Moses. Moses coached Colorado Mesa Head Coach Chuck Pipher at then Southern Colorado.

POST MATCH SOCIAL
This season the wrestling program would like to welcome their fans and supporters to come to the Ale House following all home duals. The Ale House is offering drink and food specials. Talk to the coaches about that nights dual and socialize with other Maverick Wrestling supporters.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Colorado Mesa is ranked 18th in the NWCA National Rankings that were distributed on January 15. They have held that spot for two consecutive ranking periods.
James Martinez and Chester Granard were both ranked in the top eight individual rankings. Granard moved up one spot to number seven while Martinez maintained his number two ranking.
PACO PINS
Maverick junior Paco Retana is finding success at 197 pounds. He is 9-3 this season and leads the team in pins. For the past two seasons, he wrestled at 285 pounds and gave up almost 40 pounds to wrestlers at times. He did win a RMAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Championships in his redshirt freshman season at 285. He is 11-11 in his career at 197 and is 29-42 at 285 pounds.
GRANARD THE GREAT
Senior Chester Granard is enjoying his final season of wrestling. He is 10-2 this season and ranked seventh in the latest NWCA National Rankings. His only losses have come to a Division I wrestler and a wrestler ranked ahead of him in the national rankings. Granard is the all-time leader in wins since the program was re-established in 2006 with 82.
SLAMMIN SALAZAR
Sophomore 141 pounder Daniel Salazar has been enjoying his first full season of competition. Last season, Salazar made the starting ten then was injured and missed the whole second half of the season. He is 11-2 this season but is undefeated in matches against NCAA Division II wrestlers.
MAVERICKS TO HOST REGIONAL
The Mavericks will host the 2014 NCAA Super Region 4 / RMAC Championships for the first time since the program was reinstated in 2006. All the programs in Super Region 4 consist of the RMAC and Simon Fraser out of British Columbia. The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
UP NEXT
Colorado Mesa will travel to the California to take on RMAC newcomer Cal Baptist in a dual in Riverside. They will then travel north to compete in the California Collegiate Open hosted by San Francisco State.
