Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. – Colorado Mesa led 36-25 at halftime, but used a 20-2 run to start the second half en route to a 73-49 win over the Western State Mountaineers in the 'Highest Collegiate Gym in the World,' Paul Wright Gym.
The Mavericks, ranked fifth in this week's WBCA National Poll, shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the field, including 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from behind the three-point line.
Sharaya Selsor tied for the game-high lead with 26 points and added three assists. Selsor tied a season and career-high with five made three-pointers.
During the Mavericks 20-2 run,
Leanndra Gilbert provided the biggest spark off the bench. The Colorado Springs native had a season-high 10 points, eight of those in the run. She finished with three rebounds as well.
Colorado Mesa continued to dominate on the defensive end, limiting Western State to 36.4 percent (20-of-55) from the field and just 20 percent (3-of-15) from behind the three-point line.
The Mavericks forced 21 Mountaineer turnovers that led to 22 points.
Colorado Mesa went into the half leading 36-25 and led by as many as 13 points in the half.
Sharaya Selsor led the Mavericks with 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the three-point line.
Desiree Smith led the Mountaineers with 26 points and six rebounds.
The Mavericks will continue their mini three-game road trip next weekend when they take on the Metro State Roadrunners and the Regis Rangers.
