Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State scored 48 second half points on their way to their first win of the 2013-14 season 83-74 over the Colorado Mesa Mavericks in Paul Wright Gym.
The Mavericks shot 43 percent (24-of-56) from the field but just 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from beyond the three-point arc while the Mountaineers shot 57.4 percent (27-of-47) from the field and 53 percent (9of-17) from three-point range.
Ryan Stephan finished the night with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Mike Melillo had a career-high 22 points on the night.
At the half, Colorado Mesa led 39-35 with Mike Melillo pouring in a half-high 17 points. Melillo and the Mavericks shot 52 percent (14-of-27) from the field and were 80 percent (8-of-10)from the charity stripe.
Jordan Adams led five Mountaineers in double-digit scoring with a game-high 27 points.
The Mavericks will conclude their three-game road trip next weekend in Denver when they play the nationally ranked Metro State Roadrunners and the Regis Rangers.
