Mavericks Fall in Title Match to Mustangs

Colorado Mesa men's tennis team fell to No. 1 seed Western New Mexico 5-0 in the 2013 RMAC Men's Tennis Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Elliott Tennis Center on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.

The Mustangs gained the early advantage taking all three doubles matches for a 3-0 lead entering singles play. CMU's number one doubles team of Jordan Lyden and Spencer Weinberg fell 8-6. Andres Garcia-Rojas and Andres Hernandez lost 8-4 at number two doubles and Brason Hollabaugh and Trevor Brown were defeated 8-5.

CMU's top two singles players each lost first set tiebreaks as the Mustangs closed out the dual wining in straight sets at number one and two singles. Rodrigo Almeida beat Jordan Lyden 7-6, 6-3. Juan Pablo Fuentes defeated Spencer Weinberg 7-6, 6-3.

Brason Hollabaugh (#5) was leading 6-3, 2-6, 5-1 when the dual was clinched. Andres Hernandez (#6) was leading 7-6, 5-2 when the match ended.  Taylor Macres (#4) was all tied up in a third set; 3-6, 6-2, 3-3 and Andres Garcia-Rojas was trailing 6-7, 4-5 when the match was called.

Western New Mexico will advance to the NCAA South Central Region with the automatic bid as RMAC Champions.
