Colorado Mesa women's tennis team went 1-2 on the road as the Mavericks opened up their spring break with a trip to Nebraska and Montana. CMU fell to former RMAC foe; Neb.-Kearney 6-3 on Monday at the Grand Island Tennis Center in Grand Island, NE. Tuesday the Mavericks swept Hastings College 9-0, before falling to Division I Northern Colorado, Wednesday in Greeley.
Freshman Emily Dodson posted a singles and doubles win in the Mavs' 6-3 loss to the Lopers. Dodson beat Kearney's number five singles player, Kelly Messbarger 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 for the lone singles point. Dodson teamed with Katie Metz at number three doubles to defeat UNK's Dominique Kropp and Tealyn Trimble 9-7. CMU's number two doubles team of Kristyn Wykert and Skyler Nelson won 8-5 to help CMU take two of the three doubles matches.
CMU swept Hastings College on Wednesday at the Grand Island Tennis Center. CMU allowed just five games in six singles matches. CMU swept the doubles action squandering just a single game in the 9-0 team victory.
Against Division I foe Northern Colorado on Wednesday afternoon the Bears proved to be too strong and deep, beating CMU 7-0. UNC was challenged at number two doubles as Wykert and Nelson fell 8-5. UNC swept singles play to close out the win.
CMU opens RMAC play on Friday at Montana State Billings. On Saturday the Mavericks will play Metro State in Billings before returning home.
