Colorado Mesa (17-7, 14-6 RMAC) dropped its final regular season road game at Western State Colorado, 93-82 Saturday night in Gunnison. The Mountaineers (10-14, 9-11) connected on 16 of 27 from the 3-point line. The Mountaineers 29 field goals on the night, 16 were 3-pointers. CMU was 13 of 31 from beyond the arc.
CMU trailed by six at half (37-31) and held its last lead in the game at the 4:12 mark of the first half on a jumper by Jeff Hart for a 25-24 advantage. Western would close out the half on a 13-6 run.
Western State opened the second half with a 3-pointer and built a double digit lead at the 16:13 mark. The Mountaineers led by as many as 28 points (77-49) with 7:09 left in regulation. In the next six minutes CMU outscored WSCU 33-12, and with 33-seconds remaining in the contest, closed the deficit to just seven points (89-82). Western sealed the victory at the foul line, hitting 4 of 4 free throws.
Landon Vermeer finished with a team high 17 points (5 of 7 treys) off the bench. Jeff Hart had 15 points and five rebounds. Kevin Screen registered 11 points, six assists and three steals.
All five Western starters finished with double digit figures. Travis Shepherd and Jordan Adams combined for 44 points and 10 treys.
Colorado Mesa will return home to host Adams State on Friday and Ft. Lewis College on Saturday in its final regular season games. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
