Sharaya Selsor went for a season and career-high 40 points and helped #5 Colorado Mesa to an 86-41 win over Chadron State to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Friday night in Brownson Arena.
"My teammates found me with some great dime passes and they really set me up." Selsor said of her performance. "It was really a testament to them."
Selsor finished the game on 14-of-24 (58.3) shooting from the field and added seven rebounds, six assists and five steals, which matches a career-high. She had 21 of her 40 points in the second half.
"We were fortunate it wasn't closer at halftime but we came out in the second half and played Maverick basketball." Coach
Taylor Wagner said.
Colorado Mesa led 36-23 at the half but went on a 16-2 run in the first six minutes and sixteen seconds of the second half. The Mavericks held the Eagles to 22.4 percent shooting for the game and forced 22 turnovers. CMU scored 19 points off of those turnovers.
Erika Musante tallied a career-high eight points and five rebounds in just over eight minutes of work.
"Erika did a great job for us tonight. That's what we expect from all of our players. Aubry was in foul trouble and Hannah looked a little gassed, I was looking for someone to give us a little lift and she did." Wagner said about Musante's performance. "She was ready for her opportunity."
The Eagles were led by Kattie Ranta's 16 points and game-high 12 rebounds.
Colorado Mesa improves to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in RMAC play.
The Mavericks will be at home tomorrow night as they take on the Black Hills State Yellowjackets at 5:30pm in Brownson Arena.
