Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team had four players score in double figures in an 89-79 loss against California Baptist Saturday (Nov. 9).
Ryan Stephan and Mike Melillo each finished with 15 points to lead the Mavericks.
California Baptist drained 13 3-pointers in the game, including eight in the first half, but the Mavericks made 13-of-14 free throws to trail 48-42 at the break.
CMU shot 56-percent (14-25) in the first half and 46-percent (12-26) in the second half.
Mesa's defense held the Lancers to 50-percent (14-28) from the field in the second half that saw the California Baptist lead grow to as many as 14 points before settling at 10.
Jon Orr shot 5-of-7 from the field to finish with 13 points, and
Carlos Perez chipped in 10 for CMU.
Joe Kiely tallied a game-high seven assists to go along with eight points.
Ryan Berg scored a game-high 24 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead the Lancers.
Colorado Mesa (0-2) will play an exhibition game at BYU Nov. 16.
