Box Score The Colorado Mesa University had three seperate leads but couldnt hold on as the Mavericks tied the Lady Buffs 3-3 in the Midwestern State Classic in Wichita Falls, Texas. The two teams combined for 48 shots (19 coming on goal) and 15 corner kicks in the match.
The Mavericks got the scoring going early in the match when
Sarah Pope struck for her first goal as a Maverick in the 19th minute to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead.
Kelci Crispe and
Renae McFadden assisted on the goal.
The lead wouldnt last long as Lady Buff Leslie Briggs scored her first of three goals of the match in the 21st minute to knot the score at 1-1.
CMU took there second lead of the match in the 46th minute when Darion Weigert tallied her first goal of the season off a corner kick from
Kelci Crispe. With the assist, Crispe moved into third place on the all-time assists list with 15 in her career.
The lead once again wouldnt last long as Briggs struck for her second goal in the 59th minute to tie the match at 2-2.
Sarah Pope laced her second goal of the match in the 76th minute to give the Mavericks the 3-2 lead.
Renae McFadden assisted on the goal.
Just over a minute later, Briggs completed her Hat Trick on a penalty kick and once again tied the game at 3-3.
Colorado Mesa took five shots with four coming on goal but none of them touched the back of the net.
The Mavericks will finish the road trip with a match against Midwestern State on Sunday at 12:00pm from Wichita Falls, Texas.
