GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they take on UCCS and Regis.
The Mavericks take on the Mountain Lions inside Mountain Lion Stadium at noon and then will play the Rangers on Sunday at 1 p.m. inside Regis Turf Field.
Both games will be streamed on the RMAC Network and have live stats available.
Last Time Out
The Mavs concluded their longest homestand of the season by beating last season's RMAC Tournament champs Colorado School of Mines 1-0 and then drew with CSU Pueblo 1-1.
Ella Speerschneider scored her first goal of the season while Olivia Bariao-Arce added her fourth. Keely Wieczorek only allowed a single goal while making five saves.
Over the four game home stretch, the Mavs went 3-0-1 and outscored their opponents 11-1.
RMAC Tournament Chase
Of the eight allotted spots for the RMAC Tournament, six spots have been clinched already. Regis, CMU, UCCS, Black Hills State, Fort Lewis and Colorado School of Mines have all claimed their spots in the tournament.
Westminster and Western Colorado currently claim the last two spots but will have to fend off Colorado Christian and MSU Denver to keep them.
The RMAC title is still up for grabs with Regis, CMU and UCCS all gunning for it. With CMU playing both teams this weekend, the regular season crown could be claimed by the end of the weekend. Black Hills State has an outside chance of taking it, but will have to have a lot of things to go their way.
RMAC Honors
The Mavs have been given RMAC Player of the Week four times so far, claiming all three categories at least once this season.
Olivia Barrett won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week awards while Keely Wieczorek won her ninth career Goalkeeper of the Week honors, the most ever by a Mavs player.
Ellie Duncan also won Offense Player of the Week, the first Mav to do so since Sauvelyne Randel back in 2024.
NPI Rankings
The Mavs are currently ranked sixth in the South-Central region according to the newest NPI rankings. Only six teams from the region make it into the dance with four automatic bids and two at-large bids.
Dallas Baptist, Midwestern State and Texas Women's all place in the top three alongside five other RMAC teams in the top ten.
Regis (#3), UCCS (#4), Colorado School of Mines (#7), Fort Lewis (#8) and Black Hills State (#9) join CMU in the rankings.
Wieczorek Chasing History
Wieczorek has already had an incredible career between the sticks, but she is now chasing the RMAC career shutouts record.
She currently had 43 shutouts, one away from tying the record. She will have two opportunities to not only tie but break the record if she can get two shutouts in the next couple of matches.
She totals 44 saves on 102 shots faced, good for a save percentage of 0.863. She also leads the RMAC in shutouts with eight.
Defense Showing Up and Showing Out
The defense has continued to be a strong suit for the Mavs, as they have only conceded seven goals this season. Their 0.50 goals allowed is tied with Regis for the best in the RMAC.
Barrett, Speerschneider, Sarah Dunn and Kylie Hoffman have all played a hand in this stout defense. One that will look to do damage against two really good RMAC squads.
About UCCS
The Mountain Lions have had another impressive campaign, owning an 11-3-2 overall record and a 7-2-1 RMAC record. They have outscored their foes 46-12 with 15 of those goals happening over the past few games.
Brooke Pavlich leads the team in goals with 13 and has scored four over the past two games, netting RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors in the process. Elise Broberg leads the team in assists with seven.
The Mountain Lions have relied on the goalkeeping duo of Lilliana Brinkmeier and Lucy Kapranos. Brinkmeier has made 14 saves and has only conceded one goal while Kapranos has made 33 saves.
About Regis
The Rangers are in the midst of one of the best seasons in program history. They have an overall record of 14-2 and are a perfect 10-0 in conference play. They lead the RMAC and are set to win their first RMAC regular season title since 2017 if they can continue this trajectory.
The Rangers offense is led by Fernanda Rodriguez, who has scored a whopping 16 goals. The assist leader is Paula Igual with six. Defender Brooklyn Bailey also won RMAC Defender of the Week this past week.
Goalkeeper Maggie Payne has been on a tear, winning RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week four times in row. She totals 68 saves on 172 shots faced, good for a save percentage of 0.907.
Take A Look Ahead
The Mavs conclude the regular season with a Wednesday night match against Westminster. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Community Hospital Unity Field.
