Colorado Mesa men's tennis team bounced back after a first round loss to #3 seed Montana Billings this morning to defeat Colorado Christian in the consolation bracket at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tennis championships in Denver at the Gates Tennis Center.
CMU swept the Cougars 6-0 and will play #5 seed CSU-Pueblo in the fifth/sixth place match on Saturday morning at 9 am.
CMU took an early 3-0 lead over the Cougars winning all three doubles matches. The Mavericks clinched the match with three singles victories. Jordan Lyden (#2) won 6-0, 6-0 over Dillon Etter. Andres Hernandez (#3) defeated Taylor Bryan 6-1, 6-1 and Jonathan Casson (#4) won 6-0, 6-1 over Andrew Wheeler.
Top seed Western New Mexico will face second-seed Nebraska-Kearney tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the RMAC Men's Tennis Championship match in Denver, Colo. at Gates Tennis Center. No. 3 seed Montana State, Billings will face No. 4 seed Metro State in the third place match, and fifth-seed CSU-Pueblo will face sixth-seed Colorado Mesa in the fifth place match.

CMU entered the tournament as the number six seed and faced number three seed, Montana State Billings. The Mavericks fell to the Yellow Jackets, 5-2. CMU's Andres Hernandez won at number 3 singles over Mikel Kosich 6-0, 6-4. The Mavs' other dual point came at number 2 doubles in a victory for Brason Hollabaugh and Jonathan Casson over MSUB's team of Brad Knutson and Thomas Staffilneo 8-6.
CMU will play Colorado Christian in the consolation bracket at 2 pm on Friday afternoon.
