Mavs Stumble on the Road, Fall at UNK 70-57

CMU (11-9, 9-7 RMAC) men's basketball team fell to University Neb.-Kearney 70-57 in Kearney on Friday night, snapping the Mavericks three-game win streak. The loss dropped the Mavs' conference road record to 2-6 overall. UNK improves to 12-7 overall and 10-6 in RMAC action.

Tied at 26-26 at intermission the Lopers outscored the Mavs 44-31 in the second half. CMU was 7 of 20 from the floor and connected on 15 of 25 free throws in the final 20 minutes. UNK shot 56 percent (13-23) in the second half and 16 of 18 from the foul line to earn their tenth league win.

UNK opened the second half with a 13-4 run and led by as many as 18 points on several occasions, with their largest lead of 21 points with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. A jumper by UNK's Mike Dentlinger with 10:09 left in the game pushed the Kearney lead to double digits (47-36) and holding a double-figure lead the remainder of the contest.

Chandler Burgon led all players with a season high 20 points and 11 rebounds. It marked Burgon's first double-double of the season.  Mike Melillo finished with 12 points and three rebounds.

UNK was led by Mike Dentlinger and Jon Henderson's 16 points each.

CMU will travel to Chadron State on Saturday for a match-up with the Eagles.
