Mavs drop final regular season game at Ft. Lewis 61-50

Colorado Mesa men's basketball (14-12, 12-10 RMAC) dropped its final regular season game at Ft. Lewis on Saturday night 61-50. The Mavericks will play at Metro State College in the first round of the RMAC Basketball Shootout Tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

CMU held a 34-30 lead over the Skyhawks at halftime with a 20-2 run that pushed the lead to 30-22 with 2:44 minutes remaining in the half.

The Skyhawks tied the game early in the second half and following a layup by Colton Burgon (36-34) FLC went on a 14-0 run to lead 48-36 at the 12:58 mark. Fort Lewis would not trail again in the contest as they maintained a double digit lead the remainder of the game.

Colton Burgon posted a double-double, leading all players with 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. He was 8 of 11 from the field and 4 of 5 from the foul line.

CMU turned the ball over 23 times resulting in 26 points for the Skyhawks. The Mavericks were 1 of 9 from beyond the arc and 9 of 11 from the foul line. FLC hit 7 of 16 treys and finished 14 of 18 from the free throw line.

CMU enters the RMAC post season tournament as the No. 7- seed and will face No. 2-seed Metro State College (22-5, 17-5) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the campus of Metro State.  The teams split their series this year, each winning on their home court. The Roadrunners defeated CMU 93-78 (12/30/11) and CMU beat Metro 64-47 on January 28.
