Box Score The Mesa State Mavericks fell to the Winona State Warriors in the opening round of the NCAA Central Region Tournament 5-1. The Mavericks could only muster one run on eight hits in the game while the Warriors scored five runs on thirteen hits.
The Mavericks struck early in the game notching one run in the bottom of the first inning.
Dustin Fackrell drove in
Greg Anderson on a hit-and-run double from Fackrell. The Mavericks jumped out to the early 1-0 lead.
It was all Winona State after that. The Warriors struck for a single run in the third, three runs in the fourth and a single run in the seventh and the Warriors led 5-1 after seven innings.
Dustin Fackrell finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Starter
Jared Christensen pitched [eight innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on twelve hits, walked one and struck out two in a losing effort. His record falls to 7-4 on the season.
With the loss, Mesa State drops down into the loser's bracket and will face the loser of the Augustana and St. Cloud State game at 12:00pm (CDT) at Joe Faber Field.
