#2 Mavericks sweep doubleheader from Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 2 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Adams State Grizzlies on Friday (Apr. 3) afternoon at ASU Baseball Field. The win pushes the Mavericks record to 33-3 on the season and extends their win streak to 15 games.

In game one of the day, Caleb Ruter's pitching performance led the Mavericks to an 11-3 win over the Grizzlies.

The senior lefthander gave up three runs on two hits in the first inning but bounced back and allowed just two hits after that. He wound up pitching a complete game and allowed three runs on four hits, walked two and struck out eight.

The Arvada, Colo. native retired 10 in a row from the fourth to the seventh innings with three of his strikeouts coming in that stretch.

Ruter moved his season record to 4-0.

Kolby Felix and Tate Blasi each had three hits in the game.

Felix went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three runs scored. His home run came in the top of the second inning and was his tenth of the season.

In the nightcap, the Mavericks once again got strong pitching efforts and were able to pound out 20 hits in a 20-1 win over the Grizzlies in chilly Alamosa.

Reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week Jackson Eisenhauer got the start on the mound and moved his record to 5-1 on the season. The Los Angeles, Calif. native allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out four in his four innings of work.

Brenden Morris and Abe Ahlberg pitched the final three innings and combined to allow just one hit, two walks, and five strikeouts.

The Mavericks had 13 batters that recorded at least one hit in the game. Joey Blank and Kennedy Hara led the way with three hits each. Blank finished with three runs scored while Hara drove in a team-leading three runs.

Tate Blasi continued his hot pace since returning to the field. He went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in.

Brooks Bachman tripled in his second at-bat after pinch-hitting for Landon Nunes in the sixth while Jett Walker had a pinch-hit triple in the seventh.

The two teams will conclude the series on Saturday with a single nine-inning game beginning at Noon.
