Blasi's two home runs pace #2 Mavericks to win over Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Colorado Mesa junior Tate Blasi hit two home runs to help the Mavericks to a 10-8 win over the Adams State Grizzlies on Thursday (Apr. 2) afternoon at ASU Baseball Field.

Blasi, a junior from Wichita, Kan., hit the first of his two home runs as a part of the Mavericks six-run fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Blasi sent the first pitch he saw over the fence in left field for a no-doubt grand slam. The grand slam gave the Mavericks an 8-2 lead at the time.

Colorado Mesa, ranked No. 2 in the most recent NCBWA National Rankings, needed Blasi's second home run which came in the ninth inning. He sent an 0-1 pitch over the fence in right center field for a two-run round tripper that made the score 10-7.

Blasi finished the day going 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored, and six runs driven in.

Kolby Felix finished the game 4-for-5 with a run scored and a run driven in while Joey Blank had two hits with two runs scored.

Liam Hohenstein got the start on the mound and pitched well. Hohenstein went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits, walked three and struck out five to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Sage Ferguson earned his fourth save of the season after striking out the final two batters of the game with the tying run on second base.

Colorado Mesa improved to 31-3, 17-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and extended their winning streak to 13 games in a row.

The Mavericks and Grizzlies will continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm.
